Let us Help You Learn or Simply Improve!

Even Pros Take Lessons, so Why Shouldn't You?

Interested in improving your skills or learning about golf for the first time?  Call the Pro Shop at (606) 928-6321 or fill out the form on this page to ask about our instructional plans at Sandy Creek Golf Course.

There are two teachers on staff at Sandy Creek.  PGA Professional Rich Mahar is one.  A member of the PGA of America since 1984, Mahar is the only PGA pro in Boyd County and is an extremely popular instructor.

Mahar sticks to the basics.

"My main philosophy of teaching is: Rotation helps create clubhead speed, and it does not take size or strength to turn" says Mahar. "You need to keep it simple and remember that the big muscles do most of the work."

Lessons are available for any level of golfer, from beginners to tour players. Mahar also stresses use of video in teaching because it speeds up understanding.  Explanations of mechanics and details in your lesson will always be clear and easy to understand.

"As an ‘average’ golfer who seriously wants to improve his game, I found Rich to be most helpful.  He has a wonderful grasp of swing mechanics and how it is impacted by a number of factors.  He was able to illustrate what he was trying to convey to me in very easy to understand terms and illustrations.  He gave me drills and suggestions that were extremely helpful.  I’ve taken lessons from several pros and have found Rich to be among the best.  I would (and HAVE!) recommend him to anyone who is interested in improving their game."
-David Smith
